We’ve Been Awarded The Good Work Pledge Advanced Status

Passionate people and passionate places is how the North East is often described. Silverbean, NORTH by Silverbean and Ortus are proud to be North East based agencies and we believe we have some of the best people – who deserve the best. Good work means a fair wage, support during challenging times, and equal opportunities –  as a bare minimum.

In March of 2023, we were proud to be recognised by the Good Work Pledge, the North of Tyne Combined Authority scheme that lays out what the standard for ‘good work’ should look like in the North East.

The pledge perfectly consolidates what our commitments are to our team and we want to be part of the movement that sets the bar for good work that brings fulfilment and the opportunity to grow. And it’s not just because ‘it’s the right thing to do’, it also makes great business sense – if people are happy and feel supported, then they’re going to be the best version of themselves. We want to create a team of bar raisers who are engaged and committed to delivering high quality work to our clients – and we do this by working towards this standard of excellence as laid out by the Good Work Pledge.

How Did We Qualify?

The pledge is set around 5 pillars of criteria, which showcase the benefits we offer to our employees such as;

1) Valuing and Rewarding our Workforce

We have a comprehensive reward offering, which starts with our gifting system, Bucketlist. Here employees can gift each other points in exchange for vouchers to spend online or on the high street, in recognition of their hard work – and they each get 25 points on their birthday too!

We also host Quarterly Awards based on our core values, Christmas Awards for the team player of the year and most recently, we have introduced a brand new budget for ‘Bar Raiser’ bonuses. These cash bonuses are to recognise those who go the extra mile, supporting teams outside of their own department and really set the standard for gold standard work in the agency.

2) Promoting Health and Wellbeing

We know that our employees work best when they’re feeling their best, so we have a number of health and wellbeing initiatives in our benefits package. All UK employees have access to either a Healthcare Cash Plan or Private Medical Insurance, Employee Assistance Programme and Thrive Mental Wellbeing App. But we know sometimes that might not be enough, so we also introduced a budget of £1000 per employee to access additional mental health support should they need it.

3) Effective Communications and Representation

Through our Monthly All Hands updates, we are able to bring the agency together and communicate key updates across the globe. These cover trading updates, people, big wins and learnings, and service specific matters. We also value the feedback of our employees as it helps us grow as a business, and we do this through our employee forum (Kaizen) with representatives from across the business, and our quarterly ‘Have Your Say’ feedback surveys. Successful initiates that have come from these streams have been a cost of living bonus and more variety and frequency of social activities.

4) Developing a Balanced Workforce

We are committed to creating a diverse workforce, with equal opportunities for all with plenty of learning and development. As part of our ED&I strategy, we have offered work experience placements to neurodivergent young people in the North East, and launched our apprenticeship scheme. We have also successfully launched our new Learning Management System which hosts our internal training which ranges from our own Silverbean Performance University, to inclusive management.

5) Social Responsibility

Our #100Days initiative encourages employees to give back a combined 100 working days to contribute to social causes. We work directly with local businesses that are right on our doorstep to support them financially as well as through corporate volunteering, and we’re committed to contributing to the social improvement in our community.

The Good Work Pledge is an inspiring scheme, as it recognises employers who are offering exemplary working conditions to their employees, and creates an action plan for employers who want to improve and begin to offer better work for a better future.
